The University is fully operational. Adjustments to schedules, spaces, meetings and other details will be made as needed to ensure public health and safety and to comply with University policy,   the Governor’s Executive Orders, and public health guidelines by the Virginia Department of Health, CDC and others. Any adjustments will be posted on the Operations Status Board.

Hand Sanitizer
The University has placed 2,600 free-standing hand sanitizer stands in high-traffic common areas, plus an additional 1,000 one-gallon containers in spaces that don’t receive the free-standing units. The University has also purchased a supply of sanitizing wipes for use on surfaces such as desks and chairs and disposable face coverings that can be offered to students, faculty, staff, and others who might arrive without one.

Signage/Barriers
Facilities Management has installed signs across Grounds and repositioned furnishings and fixtures as needed to promote distancing. They also have installed physical barriers at public service locations and in classrooms as needed.

Enhanced Cleaning Protocols
UVA Facilities Management has trained custodial staff on new enhanced cleaning protocols based on industry standards and best practice guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. In addition, they have adjusted custodial shifts to align with building use. Since it is not possible for the housekeeping staff to clean each classroom between uses, faculty members and students will be asked to wipe down podiums, surfaces, desks, chairs, and tabletops before and after use with disinfecting supplies stocked in the room.

Tents on Grounds
The University has erected tents across Grounds to give students places to relax, eat lunch, and get things done between classes. Each tent has lighting and WiFi, and tables and chairs are arranged to allow for physical distancing. These tents are located at the lawn in front of Peabody Hall, the south end of the Lawn in front of Old Cabell Hall (two tents), the Dell basketball courts, Hume Plaza (outside of Newcomb Hall), the lawn at the O’Hill dining hall, and the grassy area across from the Corner. In addition, some schools and units have chosen to erect tents for their own use.

Dining
Dining halls are open at O'Hill, Runk, and Newcomb. Students who choose to eat in a dining hall are expected to adhere to all university and public health and safety guidelines. Seating capacity is reduced by 50 percent in accordance with Governor Northam’s Executive Order 63, masks and social distancing are required, and staff maintain counts at entrances and exits to control occupancy.

Students can pre-order using Grubhub or stop by The Forum at O’Hill (with a separate entrance) to pick up a prepared meal to-go. In addition, there are retail locations and food trucks located around Grounds, giving students numerous options for using their meal plan.

A new delivery service app called Good Uncle has also partnered with dining to provide quality hot meals throughout Grounds, and students can pay with flex dollars. UVA Dine has also provided reusable bags to take multiple meals to-go at once for students who would like to limit their visits to the dining rooms.

Parking & Transportation
As of early September, University Transit Service (UTS) and parking permit and meter management are back in operation.

Academic Division parking modifications include:

  • Parking meters and payment stations are being removed. Meter payments throughout Grounds, including the recreation centers, are exclusively via ParkMobile app.
  • New options are available for those who need to park on Grounds occasionally.
  • Technology-based parking management approaches have been implemented with increased use of on-line transactions and parking by license plate.
  • In-person customer service is by appointment only.
  • Parking citations may be issued via US Mail or email.

Libraries
Brown and Clemons study spaces are open. Bring your mask and your UVA ID to study or ask questions. Library stacks will not open to the public in fall 2020; Special Collections is open by appointment. For up-to-the minute information, check the Library’s status dashboard. Millions of digital and physical items are newly-available online through Virgo. Ask a Librarian is another resource to find what you need.

IM-Rec Sports Facilities
IM-Rec Sports facilities are open with modified operation. Visit IM-Rec’s beatCOVID page to see where you can exercise, swim, climb, explore, and compete safely this fall.

Student Activities Facilities

University Bookstore and Cavalier Computers
The University Bookstore is open with reduced capacity, and purchases can be made in the store or online with curbside pickup or shipping via UPS. Cavalier Computers is located within the UVA Bookstore and offers a wide array of computers, tablets, computer accessories and other electronics. Contactless ID Cards
Contactless ID cards are required to access libraries and other spaces on Grounds that use contactless card readers. Current UVA ID cards have an embossed Rotunda and text printed beneath the magnetic stripe. If you have an older ID card or your card has been damaged and is no longer working in contactless readers, schedule an appointment with the University ID Card Office to get a replacement.
